For this project, I already have a pretty clear story in mind--I want to make this a narrative about having your Name stolen by a fae, and then having to find enough clues to reclaim yourself and escape. I think I want to make this almost like a mystery game, where you have to explore different locations and speak with different individuals (very very carefully, fae are tricky after all) in order to collect different parts of the lost Name, which the player will then have to anagram back together in order to escape back to the mortal world.
I think what I'll mostly be doing is structuring this almost like a standard point-and-click game, where the viewer is shown a certain scene/location, and clicking on different elements will allow the player to interact with the environment. By using the password feature, I can lock certain parts of the "game" until the player learns certain information, which will then give the player the required password to proceed.
I think for most of the backgrounds, I'll likely be looking for fantasy wallpapers to rip from the web, and then I can draw characters and objects to overlay on top of those backgrounds for the viewer to interact with. Additionally, I can use objects already present in the backgrounds as easter eggs--just because something isn't an overlaid drawing, doesn't mean it can't be interacted with!
I certainly want to have multiple endings, mostly based on how the player interacts with the fae they meet on their journey. Are they friendly? Antagonistic? Do they maybe make a deal they shouldn't? All these things would be much easier to implement if I could code in some flag variables, but I think I'll be able to manipulate Wix to get something at least close to what I want. I'll also need to be cognizant of my characters' designs, as I'll likely need to draw several talk sprites for each of them.
I'd love to go for a more dark fantasy vibe overall, adding some element of creep factor to the whole thing. Certainly not all of my characters will be humanoid, and I would love for those that are to still feel... "off" somehow. I'm confident enough in my Photoshop skills to get my backgrounds to where they need to be, but we'll see if my drawing skills measure up. All in all, I'm super excited for this project!
