For this project, I really wanted to work with some sort of eye-based imagery. Not only did I figure that making eyes would be a fun and informative thing to learn to 3D model, I've also always enjoyed the imagery and symbolism of eyes in general. Originally, I was planning to go for more of a creature-with-too-many-eyes look, but ultimately I ended up leaning more into a biblically accurate angel kind of filter, partly because of how the structure and visual style of my eyes turned out.
My primary goal with this project was to get familiar with Blender, as it's a software I've been meaning to learn for a while. Thus, most of my time for this project was dedicated to following tutorials and messing around in Blender rather than experimenting with Effect House. I created the meshes for my eyes and halos in Blender, then used shape keys to easily add a blinking animation for my filter. As for my textures, I created the materials for my eyes in Blender, then used premade textures from Effect House for the eyelids and halos. Finally, in Effect House itself, I used visual scripting to code the halos to continuously spin at different rates, and the eyes to blink in sequence whenever the user blinked.
Overall, I'm very happy with how this project turned out. I think my final filters both look decent (if not silly), and I definitely enjoyed the modeling process. I wasn't so thrilled about working in Effect House, but that's more because I'm not that into TikTok than anything else. Overall, I'm happy I got to learn some Blender basics, and am confident that I could pick it up again in the future if I wanted to.
