DA2 '24 - Project #2: Brainstorm Blog

For this project, I thought it would be interesting to take inspiration from biblically accurate angels, specifically thrones (the many wheels covered with eyes). I also want to draw from the aesthetics of a horror podcast I really like, The Magnus Archives, which has a recurring motif of eyes. I think this would be a good theme of my project since, for the most part, an eye is a relatively easy shape to model, but heavily customizable through stylization and color.

Ideally, I'd like to create a halo vibe without explicitly creating a halo, and I might also play around with putting extra eyes on the face, too. I don't know how feasible it would be, but I'd love to create a blinking animation, maybe one that syncs up with whenever the user blinks for a nice, creepy effect.

I don't know how cartoon-y I'll go with the style, though I know I want to avoid going for realism here. It could be cool to go for that uncanny valley kind of imagery that uses realistic eyes, but I don't think I have the skill to do that right just yet--I suspect it'd just look amateurish. However, I don't know if I wanna go full-on Scooby-Doo either. I suspect there will be a healthy medium that I'll just have to feel out for myself as I go. Regardless, I'm pretty excited for this project, especially since the theme (somewhat purposefully) lines up with the time of year so well.
